Pershing Field Garden Friends
Pershing Field Garden Friends is a volunteer-run community garden organization based at Pershing Field Park in Jersey City Heights. The group stewards a collection of individual and shared garden plots tended by dedicated neighborhood residents, fostering community bonds while bringing more green to the city.
Members grow vegetables, herbs, flowers, and more throughout the spring and summer growing season. The garden is a welcoming, intergenerational space — longtime Heights residents garden alongside recent arrivals, united by soil and seeds.

Gardening Tips for New Members
- Start seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost (typically mid-April in NJ).
- Water in the early morning to reduce evaporation and fungal issues.
- Raised beds warm up faster in spring — great for tomatoes and peppers.
- Attend a community workday to learn from experienced gardeners and meet your neighbors.
